These ground glass screens are perfect for combining with my brightness boosting Fresnels.

Ground glass focusing screens made from Schott Borofloat 33 borosilicate glass. This is a glass used in industrial optical applications such as laboratory work, aerospace, etc. The Schott name is well known name in the photographic world.

Compared to standard soda-lime float glass borosilicate glass has the following advantages:

• Colourless.

• More transparent. Lower refractive index.

• Harder. Tougher.

• Excellent thermal stability.

• Excellent chemical resistance.

These qualities lead to a ground glass that is; brighter, highly durable, and much more scratch resistant (including of course, the ground side!). All the qualities you would like in a ground glass!

I grind these borosilicate ground glass screens by hand to the finest possible grind. I have been grinding glass for around 13 years and have developed methods to ensure the finest and most even grind.

The ground glass screens are true to size stated or rounded down to the next closest millimetre. For example the 4×5” screen is 101×127mm ± 0.5mm.
