Here is what Jason says about the new plates:

Now made at our dedicated facility in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

As we prepared to restart production, I improved the speed while retaining the contrast of the original plates. J Lane Dry Plates preserve the look you would achieve using hand-coated plates at the dawn of the silver-gelatin photographic era.

  • Silver gelatin based glass plate negative media.

  • Handed-coated dry plates recreate the look and practice of 1880s photography.

  • Orienting notch, similar to sheet film, for formats smaller than 8" x 10"

  • Please see the Techniques and Tips page for more information.

Can be opened under any safelight which is safe for photographic paper. Developing, handling, and storage is similar to that of film, but expect the emulsion to be more fragile not having benefited from the last 100 years of emulsion-making R&D.

Plate holder required for their use: Antique dry plate holders from the era, ChromaGraphica Plate Holders, or newly made wet plate holders. NOTE: Plate dimensions are standardized per ISO 14548:2021. NOTE: Plates will fit in Chamonix holders.
